Idea#3: Rear break lights that change contrast
I am not sure if it is just me, but when travelling on the motorways/freeways it would be nice to have some feedback from the person in front doing the breaking. So many times you think the person is breaking really hard so you componsate and then you notice that they just touched their breaks.Slowing you down and everyone else.
I was watching a TV program the other night (the name of the program I forget), but the main thing they were talking about was "phantom traffic jams". Basically these traffic jams are just because some car drivers over componsate with their breaking and then there is wave of breaking that reaches a peak and this is when you come to a complete standstill wondering what the big deal is, when actually it is someone "over compensating".
Even MIT are trying to figure this one out
So my simple idea, which might solve some of the problem is to have your breaks lights at different contrasts so the driver behind knows how hard your breaking. So if your breaking lightly to componsate then it just shows as a low contrast and if you steadily break harder then the person driving behind knows how hard to break. Some of you might say that you can judge how far are car is in front and make your decision accordingly.I think your brain has to work harder to do this than looking at a colour getting brighter and brighter ;-) No expert here, maybe MIT can help.
Someone know doubt has already thought of this in one of the big car companies and patented it. Great I am really happy the share my ideas so I can get some benefit in my life in the future, but please can you go ahead and make it happen? I don't think it is that hard to do? is it?
Please let me know if this idea could help you and maybe we could petition the car manufacturers to do something about it.
Just another free idea I was hoping to share.
